Ryan Ainsworth

Ryan completed a Master of Engineering Management. He now works as a project manager at Beca.

“I decided to do this programme because I wanted to gain the understanding of commercial business to complement the technical knowledge I gained through my undergraduate degree. The ‘one year MBA for engineers’ was perfect for this, and I could tailor the course to provide me with what I didn’t get from my undergraduate engineering degree. The integration with the business school allowed me to pursue other topics that aren’t generally taught in engineering, and study alongside those progressing towards an MBA

“The programme gave me a good grounding for my job as a project manager, where I now not only need to understand the technical aspects of a project, but need to have knowledge in client budgets, contracts, and commercial drivers. This understanding has allowed me to find ways of doing my job smarter and more efficiently. In my job I’m constantly learning – no two projects are the same, and each has its own unique challenges. I plan to continue to learn from the projects I work on, and carry on my career as a successful project manager.

“Being able to turn ideas into reality drives me every day. I love the fact that I can look at a building, or visit a place that I have had a hand in creating and know that I was involved. You just can’t beat that feeling – it gives me a great sense of pride in my work.
