pro class reunion

1966 Pro Class Reunion

In 1966, 120 eager and green young men arrived at Ardmore to enjoy a unique engineering experience. 50 years later, nearly half that number and their partners reunited for the half century celebration, with attendees arriving from Australia, Canada, the USA and of course, New Zealand.

The reunion began with a very social and noisy gathering at Villa Maria Estate in Mangere, where everyone had the opportunity to catch up on the intervening 50 years whilst enjoying a tasty meal. Photos of youthful exploits prompted shouts of recognition, many tales and experiences were exchanged, and friendships rekindled.

The following day, a number of the engineers took the opportunity to visit the Newmarket Campus and were stunned at the breadth of current engineering and the facilities now being offered. Dean of Engineering Professor Nic Smith graciously offered his time for a question and answer session outlining his vision for the Faculty and the forthcoming rebuild of the Symonds Street building.

The event wrapped up with a lunch at the New Zealand Warbirds Association at Ardmore Airport and a trip to the site of the old school. The highlight for many was the visit to the Avspecs’ latest Mosquito bomber rebuild project and the Spitfire.

The Class of 1966 agreed upon an initiative to provide a fund to assist with the development of the innovative laboratories in the new building.

The AUEA is keen to promote other similar reunions. If you want guidance with arranging such a reunion, contact Peter McGregor at magmac2@xtra.co.nz .

AUEA Ardmore Luncheon

About 50 of the faculty’s finest Ardmore Engineering alumni and partners gathered for the ever popular annual luncheon at Beaufords in Totara Park, Manurewa in March. It was another great chance to meet up with old friends and hear about what is happening at the Faculty and AUEA. The weather had been mixed so it was held indoors in the fine surroundings of the beautiful old homestead. Many tales were told and memories relived, as well as new ones created. Luckily for us the sun came out and shone brightly that lunchtime and we got a great photo of the attendees under the tree. See you all back here in March 2017!
